Lunch at 4 in the afternoon

My family celebrated the first day of 2009 with a barbecue – would this mean slaving away in the hot coal for the whole year? Nahh! The ‘voice’ said I am being stupidstitious.

The menu includes belly rashers (pork liempo), chicken wings, salmon cutlets, talong, sweet corn, and chicken soup with kalamunggay for my mother and son.

I only rubbed salt on the pork, chicken wings, and salmon. This simple and tastiest way has been influenced by an older brother. My mother prepared the kinilaw na talong (eggplant salad) with tomato, ginger, garlic, onion, vinegar, lemoncito juice, and salt added to the sinugbang talong, garnished with spring onions.

The sweet corn was barbecued and buttered a la MarketManila.

Unfortunately, we decided to use the small grill instead of the bigger one thus lunch was delayed by 4 hours.
